Peace?

Ok, Odd hypothetical question that I have wanted to ask but knew that my site won’t get a lot of response. What if unity is to happen, what if It’s in the Bible that when we are at peace in the churches then it all happens? (Being careful not to say what I’m want to say) I wonder if I could actually turn this into a question that some might think on.

I asked this question on someone’s site

I’d love to hear your opinions

What? That the Lord returns when His church is finally able to live in unity?

I'm all over that!

hmmm...

I like the concept. But I am not sure it's biblical.

Although this is an interesting bit of scripture:

2 Peter 3:11-12
Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives [12] as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.

It does refer to us being able to speed the coming of Judgment Day. However, I believe in the original Greek it was talking about an eager expectation of the Day, not a "get-your-act-together-so-the-Day-wll-get-here-more-quickly" kind of thing.

Codepoke, You say you are all over that.
Do you mean, "I'm all over that" as in "wouldn't that be really cool"? or "I'm all over that" as in "I have studied the scriptures and I am convinced that this is what they teach"?

Just curious.
It's the first time I have heard the question posed.

I studied Revelation and was hooked by the good news. Then with the Unity between the COC and CC I started to think wow what if. I read Silguod's blog and the question was yelling in my head Whatif?

Keep talking I think It's a good what if.

Hey Milly,

Jesus said the world would know we are his disciples if we love one another. And he prayed that we would be one so that the world would believe God sent Jesus. So, there is some indication that if we learn to love and be unified, a lot of God's purposes will be realized. Maybe that's what he's waiting for. If so, then by pursuing love and unity we are speeding his return. Nothing could be more important. No goal could be more lofty or more noble.

High expectations of a quick return by the Lord because all the tribes of the church suddenly become united doesn't fit in with the statement that He will come like a "thief in the night."

He will come when we DON'T expect Him.

Perhaps He will return when all things seem completely out of control; when Christians become scarce, and evil appears to have the upper-hand.

I think you'd be hard pressed to prove a cause and effect relationship, but it certainly sounds good. Motivating, too, eh?

Oh, and it's sAlguod, not sIlguod. :-) But you got the u-o right, most people flip those two. When I picked that I figured 'Douglas' backward would be easy, ha!

mrtool - I'm part of the ICOC branch of the family tree (I'll let Milly speak for herself). I have a friend in Omaha who is also in the ICOC, but for various reasons he may be looking for a new church there. Check him out at www.pinakidion.com.

Danny Kaye,

I don't quite believe this, but I believe something pretty similar, so I'm on board with the idea.

This would be a lot like postmillenialism. Could be a perfect fit, really. But the postmills don't have quite enough gas for me.

I won't be posting on eschatology for at least a month, but I'm getting there. :-)

Salguod,
Sorry for the name oops.

Thank you all for chatting.

I'll reveal my vision someday. (Not an Oral Roberts scarey one don't panic for me. Just a dream of sorts.)
